How we go about website copywriting

We’re flexible, working to fit with your processes. We can blend in with your team, or work directly with your clients as a preferred supplier. It’s up to you.

If you don’t have processes in place to manage your copywriting, we can take the reigns. Using a range of intuitive online tools, we’ll keep you and other key stakeholders in the know.

Curious how website copywriting works?

We’ve developed a system that easily adapts to fit in with you.

We take care of all the moving parts. So don’t worry about keeping track. Unless you want to of course – we’re flexible.

If you’re a fan of details, read on to find out more.

Our website copywriting process goes like this:

  1. Project discovery
  2. Project definition
  3. Research
  4. Tone of voice guidelines + feedback
  5. Website copywriting + feedback
  6. Project completion

6 steps to your new website copy:

Step 1 – Project discovery

We start with a discovery session. This is about getting to know you, what you do and your target audience. Later, we’ll distil the most important information into your website’s copy.

Project discovery can be in person, over the phone, via Skype, Slack, or your favourite method of communication. It usually takes 60-180 minutes.

We’ll discuss all sorts, including:

  • Issues/challenges with your existing website
  • Objectives for your new site
  • Target audience/user personas
  • Tone of voice
  • Competitors
  • Content requirements
  • SEO requirements

Step 2 – Project definition

After we’ve figured out exactly what you need, we’ll write up a detailed project definition.

Step 3 – Research

We get our nerd on, researching what you do, your competition, SEO and anything else relevant to your particular website.

Every site is different, so this research stage is crucial to understand what you’re all about – and to get into the mindset of your target audience.

Step 4 – Tone of voice guidelines + feedback

Your tone of voice is how your brand would sound if it could talk out loud. We develop guidelines especially for you, giving your brand its own distinctive voice.

We use these guidelines to write copy for your new website – they’re yours to keep for any future writing projects.

To be extra thorough, we also prepare grammar, spelling and consistency guidelines. We’ll make sure you’re pleased with everything before moving forward to the main event: website copywriting.

Step 5 – Website copywriting + feedback

Applying your new tone of voice, we write your website copy.

We’ll keep you up to date with progress using Google Drive and Marvel.

We take care of your SEO, including meta descriptions, title tags, and targeted keywords for every page of your site.

Throughout this stage, we liaise with key stakeholders, including your web developers and designers, to ensure your copy and website design work in harmony.

Step 6 – Project completion

Once we’ve completed your new copy and you’ve approved it – it’s time to start wrapping everything up.

We provide your complete tone of voice guidelines and all your website copy in any digital format(s) you choose: Google Docs, Microsoft Word, HTML, etc.

If you like, we’ll load all your content onto your new website ourselves, or we can liaise with your developer to get it sorted.
